F.A.Q. ( Frequently Asked Questions )

We are here to answer all your questions at any time. Please feel free to contact us by Phone or by Email.

Q. Who is The House Doctor?
A. The House Doctor is Dr. Justin Davis, an experienced, board-certified physician. Dr. Davis currently works out of his home office in the Potrero Hill section of San Francisco. The office is centrally, located for rapid response and easy access to most areas in and around SF.  Dr. Davis is a pioneer in the home-healthcare field and is proud to provide, professional, caring, world-class service for every patient, available 24/7.

Q. What is a housecall?
A. A housecall is when a physician conveniently brings medical services to you. Housecalls are available, but not limited, to homes, hotels, and the workplace.

Q. Can I obtain a prescription over the phone?
A. Yes, established patients can receive refills on existing non-narcotic prescriptions over the phone for a small fee. However, it is against California state law to prescribe any medication over the phone without an examination. If you are not an established patient with our practice, we cannot prescribe or refill medications without an initial housecall or office visit.

Q. Do you offer pediatric care services?
A. Absolutely! Dr. Davis is a board certified physician with extensive training and experience in pediatric care. We provide quality pediatric urgent care through housecalls or office visits. As a bonus, our office has a Kids' Corner with plenty of books and toys to make your children feel welcomed and comfortable.

Q. Do I need to pre-schedule a housecall or office visit?
A. No. We are available 24 hours a day, whenever medical assistance is necessary. Simply call 415-834-5364 to arrange an at-home or in-office visit.

Q. Do you have an office or clinic?
A. Yes. We offer you the convenience of housecalls or the option of visiting our private state-of-the-art office. Centrally located in the sunny Potrero Hill section of San Francisco, our office has direct access to and from the 101 & 280 ramps with free parking available in front. A visit to or from us is less costly than going to the emergency room (ER).

Q. What if hospitalization is necessary?
A. Dr. Davis has privileges at one of the Bay Area’s finest hospitals, the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). If hospitalization is necessary, we maintain direct contact with your hospital team and continue to provide optimal care to ensure your comfort and health.

Q. How long will it take for my doctor to arrive on a housecall?
A. The doctor will usually arrive within one hour of a call and oftentimes within minutes if the visit is requested within the city of San Francisco. The doctor will advise you of the estimated time of arrival; please keep in mind that traffic can delay travel. For your convenience, you may request a preferred time to meet with the doctor. For office visits, unlike most practices, with us you will have instant access to your doctor with no wait.

Q. Can you make referrals to specialists?
A. Yes, we can arrange expedited consultations with top specialists in all fields necessary, locally or abroad.

Q.  Can laboratory tests be done during the housecall?
A. Yes. We can virtually transport our office in a doctor’s bag, including laboratory equipment for testing. Some of the tests that we can do on housecalls are: instant blood testing for glucose, electrolytes, kidney function, and blood count; strep, mono, influenza and pregnancy tests; urine dip analysis. Tests can also be arranged at a lab of your choice. For more complicated testing like STD’s, we send specimens collected during the housecall or office visit to a lab for processing.

Q. What about medications?
A. We are equipped with pharmaceutical medications to cover most common diagnoses such as flu, bronchitis, food poisoning, severe headache, etc. We can also write complete prescriptions or call them in to the pharmacy of your choice.

Q. What are the benefits of a Housecall?
A. Convenience, Comfort, and Connection. No need to travel to the clinic or hospital; no need to spend time waiting in a room with sick patients. Rest in familiar surroundings as the House Doctor comes to you. Medications and supplies are dispensed to you at the time of the visit. We are available anytime, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Connect with your doctor and get to know one another; spend more time getting your questions answered; maintain the ability to directly contact your doctor after the housecall visit.

Q.  Who benefits from housecall services?
A. Virtually everyone! Housecalls benefit those who want the convenience of their doctor brought to them in the privacy of their own home, workplace, or hotel: busy moms and dads, travelers, homebound patients, visually-impaired people, the elderly, non-ambulatory patients, busy executives, and high-profile people. Housecalls also benefit people who are too sick to come to the doctor, those who do not want to wait in an emergency room, or for times when other doctors' offices are closed, such as on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Q. Do you accept medical insurance?
A. We are considered out-of-network providers and we do not directly bill your medical insurance company, but we provide you with all the necessary forms for reimbursement. Many plans do reimburse for housecall services, especially PPO's, which reimburse up to 80% for our services. We recommend that patients contact their insurance provider to determine coverage prior to requesting a housecall or office visit. By eliminating our relationship with the insurance company, we can focus more on you and your medical wellbeing.

Q. What about payment?
A. Payment is required at the time of service, and we accept the following forms thereof: Cash, Traveler’s Checks, Debit / ATM, major Credit Cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. We also accept HSA (Health Savings Account) and Flex Accounts for which you can receive significant tax benefits; contact your tax advisor for more information on these benefits.
